Fiberglass reinforcement is a material that is often used in cottage construction. Composite reinforcement, due to its versatility and perspective, is rightfully ahead of other types of reinforcement.
The construction of a cottage with the use of composite reinforcement is economically justified, and the complete structures are more reliable.
Advantages of using composite reinforcement
The active use of composite reinforcement in the construction of cottages is explained by a number of advantages:
- High tensile strength. This indicator is 2 times higher than that of steel. At the same time, the strength does not change even with sharp temperature fluctuations.
- Heat resistance. This allows the composite rod not to change its properties at temperatures from -70 to +100C. And if the foundation work is done out at subzero temperatures, the strength of the fiberglass increases by 35%.
- Lightweight. Thanks to this, the building has less weight than if metal rebar is used, thus reducing the load on the foundation.
- Ease of transportation. A composite rebar with a diameter of 4 to 12 mm is usually produced in reels that can be transported even in the trunk of a passenger car.
- The dielectric properties of fiberglass makes the building electrically safe and eliminates radio interference.
It is also worth considering that metal bars can be replaced with composite ones of a smaller diameter.
The use of composite fiberglass reinforcement in the construction of the cottage
Such an advantage of fiberglass as corrosion resistance has influenced its wide use in the construction of cottages. The use of composite reinforcement during the foundation construction is the most popular, since the foundation experiences the least dynamic loads. At the same time, the physical properties of this material are sufficient to build a reliable structure.
Since the composite and concrete have almost the same thermal expansion ratios, you can be sure that the concrete foundation will not start to crack after a while.
In addition, composite rebar is used in:
- Concrete structures that act as a fences;
- Masonry, which is made from foam concrete blocks.
Flexible composite building material is actively used for the production of panels for the walls of “sandwich” type structures. One of the main reasons for this popularity is that the non-metallic reinforcement rod has poor thermal conductivity, which increases the thermal insulation of the panel structure.
Composite fiberglass reinforcement in the construction of cottages is actively used in cases where the building is located near the water, since fiberglass is not a subject to corrosion.
