Safety measures during work with fiberglass mesh

    • When working with fiberglass mesh, it is necessary to wear gloves. Thin gloves with latex or polyurethane coating are perfect for this. This protection will ensure maximum convenience and safety when working with fiberglass.
    • You need to cut the glass mesh only in protective glasses and overalls made of dense material that covers the entire body.

Transportation and storage of fiberglass mesh

    • Transportation of rolls with fiberglass mesh is carried out only in a horizontal position. For transportation, the rolls are stacked on top of each other.
    • It is necessary to store the fiberglass mesh in an indoor room in a horizontal position on the shelves, while the distance from the floor should be more than 10 cm.
    • In heated rooms, composite materials should be at least 3ft away from heating devices.
    • Do not allow prolonged exposure to UV light and humidity on composite materials.

Preparation of the fiberglass mesh for installation

    • Unwinding of rolls with a glass mesh can be done by one employee.
    • It is necessary to unwind the rolls with a fiberglass mesh directly on the territory of the construction site.
    • Unwinding of the glass mesh is carried out in a horizontal position.
    • Fiberglass mesh does not require straightening, unlike metal. The rolls of the glass mesh are unwound in an even layer and fit tightly to any plane or cylindrical surface.

    Cutting the fiberglass mesh

Tools for cutting composite material are selected depending on the thickness of the reinforcing bars. A mesh with fiberglass rods with a diameter of up to 8 mm is well cut with a bolt cutter or scissors for metal, but reinforcing rods with a diameter of more than 8 mm are cut with a hacksaw or a grinder.

    Laying of fiberglass mesh

    • The surface on which the fiberglass mesh will be laid must be well cleaned of construction dust and other contaminants.
    • A fiberglass mesh of the required size is measured and cut off from the roll. It is recommended to cut the canvas into whole pieces, so a finished coating with greater strength is obtained. When laying a grid of several pieces, it is necessary to make an overlap of at least 10 cm at the joints.
    • The glass mesh is placed in an array of uncured mortar. The reinforcing material is distributed evenly over the surface, without folds. If the glass grid has large cells, and the solution is not thick, then you can horizontally place the desired size of the grid and fill it with a solution. This method is often used in road construction or when reinforcing the floor.
    • When reinforcing walls and ceilings, the solution is applied in two steps. First, cover the surface with the first layer of solution. After this layer seizes, the glass mesh is laid (the mesh is slightly pressed into the solution) and covered with a second layer of the solution.
    • For reinforcement, an additional layer of mesh is sometimes used.

In addition to the solution, the fastening of the mesh to the base can be carried out with a dowel fastener or a strong glue that has high adhesion to plastic materials.
