Safety measures
During the reinforcing of concrete structures, it is necessary to use gloves. Gloves that have a latex or PVC coating are perfect for working with composite rods. Gloves ensure the safety of the hands, as well as maximum convenience when working.
It is necessary to cut the rebar in protective glasses and protective clothing made of dense material, which covers the whole body. Thus, it will be possible to increase the level of protection against fiberglass lint.
Large coils of fiberglass rebar should be unwound, at least by two men, directly on the site where construction work is taking place.
Transporting fiberglass reinforcement coils with diameters of 4-12 mm
It is necessary to carry fiberglass rods manually – this can be done with one hand or on the shoulder.
Fiberglass reinforcement with a diameter of 4-10 mm can be easily carried by one person, and rods with a diameter over 12 mm should preferably be carried by two people. These coils can be rolled around. The weight of these coils does not exceed 35 lbs.
The height that coils of fiberglass rebar can fall from, should not exceed 2ft.
Preparation of fiberglass rebar for installation
Before starting work, it is necessary to make calculations of composite rods. At the same time, you need to take into account the number of rods and their length. After determining the location of the outer end of the reinforcement, carefully remove the packaging, holding the rings of the rods so that they do not fall apart.
Coils with fiberglass rods are unwound in a vertical position on the construction site.
The most convenient ways to unwind the reinforcement of the desired length:
- The bars are removed sideways with rings away from the reel.
- Coils with composite rods are rolled out according to the principle of wheel movement. During rolling, the rods of the required size are cut off.
To avoid spontaneous unwinding of the coil, you need to keep all the rings of the reinforcement near its second end. It will be faster and more accurate to unwind fiberglass rods in a pair. Only two people are strongly recommended to prepare for the installation of reinforcing rods with a diameter exceeding 8 mm.
Rebar cutting
The device for cutting rebar is selected depending on its diameter. Bolt cutters or metal scissors are used to cut rods with a diameter of up to 8 mm, a grinder or a hacksaw is used to cut metal fittings with a diameter exceeding 8 mm.
With a circular saw, you can cut several rods that are in one bundle.
Binding of the reinforcement frame
It is necessary to bind reinforcing rods with the help of a special attachment, which can be a special steel wire, loops or a nylon screed.
Since composite rods have a small weight, it is not necessary to use special devices to bind them. The frame made of fiberglass rebar is perfectly mounted at the place where the concreting of the building will be carried out.
Installation of a frame made of rebar
The frame made of composite rods is stretched during installation and fixed with clamps in places that need to be concreted. To fix the reinforcement, screeds located in the ground at the corners of the concreted area are used.
This is the final stage of reinforcement of the reinforced concrete base of the structure. After connecting the frame at the corners, you can start installing the formwork and concreting the structure.
